When defining the spirit or the general feeling of a room, the most important factor is the color, that must be appropiated with all furniture.
• Vertical lines add height and dignity, creating a more formal atmosphere. Also balance the horizontal lines found in most furniture.
•Horizontal lines tend to create a feeling of relaxation. Work well in informal settings or as a relief for the vertical lines of the formal rooms.
• Diagonal lines attract attention and direct gaze. They can be disruptive unless accompanied by the opposing vertical or diagonal.
• Curved lines have a soothing effect and prevent the room from becoming too rigid. Use curved lines with restraint so that the room is not too soft and feminine.

color
Color has the power to make a room much more beautiful than any other element. The color sets the mood. You can cool or heat a room, make it bigger or smaller. You can hide details unattractive or call attention to the center of interest. Even with simple furniture, good use of color can transform a room.
texture
The role of texture in home become very important. The visual texture is apparent smoothness or roughness of a material. To maintain or enhance a sense of informality use tough fabrics with visual textures, rustic or rough.
Using various levels of complementary textures adds variety and keeps the interest. However, it is a good idea to avoid dramatic contrasts between textures.
